At the Michigan History Foundation, our mission is to raise private funds for the preservation and interpretation of Michigan’s history. We accomplish this mission through a long-standing partnership with the Michigan History Center, including its museum and statewide sites, the Archives of Michigan and other state agencies and organizations.

With the support of individuals, communities, corporations, and other philanthropic organizations, we work to ensure Michigan’s rich historical resources serve as cultural, economic and educational assets for current and future generations.

Established in 1989, the foundation’s first major success was securing $1.3 million in donations from individuals and organizations to complete the twentieth century exhibits at the state’s newly established museum, the Michigan History Museum.  The Foundation continues to play an instrumental role in supporting the Museum as well as the Archives of Michigan and other museum and historical sites around the state that are all part of the Michigan History Center.

We invite you to explore our site, read more about some of our latest initiatives and learn how you can help create a legacy that inspires and informs future generations.
